Nestled in the countryside of Swainsthorpe, just south of Norwich, Sveinn’s Hamlet is an independent, family-run vineyard established in 2020. Named after the old Norse name for Swainsthorpe, the vineyard celebrates the area’s rich heritage while embracing a modern approach to English viticulture

Sveinn’s Hamlet was awarded Best Bacchus at the WineGB East Awards for its Bacchus Fumé 2025. The accolade recognises years of dedication, refinement and expertise from Viticulturist Chris Hatto and Head of Sveinn’s Hamlet, Simon Cruickshank, and is a fantastic achievement for the whole team.
The Bacchus Fumé takes the vineyard’s signature Bacchus style and gives it an added layer of richness and complexity through fermentation in oak, rather than solely in stainless steel. Despite its name, “Fumé” does not mean smoky; instead, it reflects the wine’s fuller, more complex character.
The judges described the wine as a “fruity dry white wine” with apple and white flower aromas, racy acidity and delicious, intense flavours of green apple, pear and white pepper. Their comments perfectly capture the fresh, expressive character that makes this award-winning Bacchus Fumé so distinctive
